I have never really been a fan of football and I probably wouldn't go to a real game, but when I was offered the opportunity to visit St Mary's, I couldn't think of a reason to say no.

At the end of this week I was very lucky to visit the stadium with the university, have a tour and find out about their PR and marketing departments.

We first visited the stadium grounds which were absolutely stunning with the clear blue sky above us. We were able to look inside the changing rooms of where the away teams would stay (I think they would be scared) and then the Saints changing room. Obviously Saints' changing room was a hell lot better and even had a hot tub.

It really was interesting.

We then visited the press boxes and the press room. Both had Saints' sponsors shown everywhere which is great for their publicity as well as the football club itself. Each sponsor has their own room box also which is good as they can publicise during football games.

We then walked out through the tunnel to the stadium grounds which were completely empty which is unusual to see for a football stadium but it was soon to be filled 4 hours after us being there. It looked stunning and I found out each side of seating had its own personalities depending on age and season ticket holders.

After photo opportunities, it was time to learn what happens behind the scenes, when the games get advertised and how the PR of Saints stays so positive. We spoke to the leaders of marketing and ticketing and they explained to us what Saints mission statement was, their targets and partnerships and what they have done to keep the stadium going for so long. It was very interesting and exciting to hear what they do to keep the Saints' "Marching on".

Overall, it was a great afternoon and I really enjoyed getting an insight of my home football stadium.

Have a look at some photos from the day below:
