It's that time again where people are applying for University and the UCAS deadline is now approaching (for some that might've already been and gone). I thought I would share my experience of my first semester just so you all get an insight into what I've been up to these last few months and what Uni Life is like.
The first thing I would say is if you want a really sociable time at University, move into halls! I haven't managed to socialise too much as I commute in from home but I have met some lovely people along the way. If you feel you're lonely the first few couple of months, it does get better! The best thing to do is to try and join some societies or go to events so that you can get to know people. Most Uni's now have a freshers Facebook page for when you join so you can find out who is on your course and start to socialise early! I joined the Make-Up society and the PR and Comms society.
Secondly, Freshers week is really fun! Solent had an event at the Guildhall and I ended up coming away with bags of goodies including vouchers, stress balls, leaflets and Oceana cloak room free vouchers (They'll come in handy, especially for the freshers events!). All of the nightclubs in Southampton also provide a great line up of events including big DJ's, Traffic light nights and special guests. I ended up meeting Wes and Josh from the 2018 series of Love Island during a freshers event at Oceana.
The next thing to talk about is the work load. Now I know that a lot of students like to socialise a fair bit at Uni but I'ts really important to balance the work and social life to keep up with the Units. My units (Creative Digital Technology, Intro to PR and Marketing Principles) were really enjoyable and I ended up completing a presentation, digital work, group work, a multiple choice test and some reflective writing too. I had support whenever I needed it which is fantastic and crucial when completing and understanding your units. Remember that It's okay to ask for help if you need it because someone else is probably thinking the question in their head too.
When I knew I had got a place at Solent back in August, I didn't realise how much personally I would develop as a person in a space of 4 months. I've had a lot of life changes, met and seen some fantastic people and I have learnt a lot about Public Relations already. University really makes you grow up and makes you feel like an adult because they put you in real life situations and you get a real experience with what you'll be involving yourself in your future career.
Overall, I can't wait to see what else University brings me.
Keep an eye out over the next few weeks on some new content about Public Relations and Consumer Behaviour.
